Whether your high school graduation is approaching or you’re about to be a college grad, it’s the best opportunity to honour this moment the best way possible – with a senior or college graduation photoshoot. Your graduation is a unique moment that should be documented in photos to look back on. Your parent will want to hang these photographs on their wall, you may want to use some on your social media, or even on CV.
I have captured numerous graduations in and around Toronto, and GTA. These are the best tips for a successful grad shoot. And don’t forget to throw that cap in the air!
Timing
The best time of year for your graduation photos doesn’t have to be on the day of your graduation. I get booked for graduation photoshoots months before the actual event, so you may be left out with some dates that differ from the grad date. Don’ worry! We can plan your graduation photoshoot in spring, summer, or fall. Each season is photogenic in its own way.
Location
One of the best location choices is on-campus. School and university campuses are gorgeous, and Toronto is proud to have many beautiful ones, such as University of Toronto, Trinity College, Toronto Metropolitan University, George Brown College etc. We can also shoot around the city, out in the nature, or in your favorite cafe.
Family and friends
Share this moment with your loved ones and/or with your best friends. Your folks are definitely proud of you, and they are probably the ones who wanted you to do a graduation photoshoot.
Outfit
Since it’s a graduation photoshoot, you should bring a graduation cap and gown. But it’s not all about the gown pictures. Show your style you want to show with your grad outfits. Wear something that makes you confident!
Posing
I know how stressful it can feel when the camera lens is pointed at you. Your body language is important to achieve the right mood and attitude. I will be there to loosen you up by guiding you throughout the process. Jump, goof around, or dance like no one’s watching! Be confident, stand tall with an open chest and hands on your hip, throw a smile, sit on the floor, or on some steps with crossed legs. You can lean against the wall, play with your hair, or stick your hands in the pocket.
